Full title: IN THE FOOTPRINT: The Battle Over Atlantic Yards. New play with music.
Show will tell the story of the largest development project in Brooklyn's history. The Civilians' presentation takes its inspiration from interviews with the real life players in the story of Brooklyn: residents both old and new, community activists, developers, local business owners, politicos and many others.
Seeking (Note: All should be able to sing. Actors will likely be asked to sing if called back):
Bertha Lewis / Others:
AVAILABLE TRACK. African American female, 35–50. Bertha: Outspoken former head of the Brooklyn branch of ACORN. Actress also plays several other Brooklyn residents.
Sal Zarsano / Others:
AVAILABLE TRACK. Male, 30s/40s. Native Brooklyn resident for 45 years. Grew up in Sheepshead Bay. Member of the carpenters’ union (“Don't build, Don't destroy – My ass”). Actor also plays several other Brooklyn residents and politicians.
The following four roles are cast (i.e. offered and accepted). Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.
Letitia James:
CAST. African American female, 30s). Councilwoman for Brooklyn.
Daniel Goldstein:
CAST. Male, 40s. Activist and Brooklyn resident.
James Caldwell:
CAST. African American male, 40s. Head of the community organization BUILD in Brooklyn.
Patty Hagen:
CAST. Female, 30s/40s. Activist and Brooklyn resident.
