THIRD Playwright: Wendy Wasserstein Director: Michael Barakiva
1st rehearsal: 7/5 Opening: 7/22 Closing: 7/30
SEEKING:
LAURIE early 50s, female. A brilliant, glass-ceiling-shatterer academic who is used to being the smartest person in a room full of smart people. Confident, aggressive, with a razor-sharp wit. This is a woman who is always on the go and never at a loss for words.
NANCY early 50s, female, all ethnicities. Intelligent, damaged, a sharp sarcastic sense of humor (comedic timing imperative). A woman who has let her body go, suffered the consequences, and is now fighting for her life. Uses comedy to deflect. Transforms into a genuinely hopeful character by the end of the play.
WOODSON BULL, III 20, male. Athletic, masculine, preppy, handsome. A real bro with the effortless swagger of someone who’s always gotten what he’s wanted. Wrestler with the build to show it. The picture of white heterosexual privilege.
EMILY early 20s, female, all ethnicities. Laurie’s daughter. Smart, ironic, quirky: the product of the small liberal arts New England town where she grew up. All of her mom’s smarts with none of the bite. THIS ROLE WILL BE NON-UNION.
JACK early 70s, male. Laurie’s father. A great, kind man suffering from dementia. When he is lucid, we see the man he was and still is. When he drifts, his moods change quickly, from sentimental to violent. CAST - THIS ROLE IS CAST.
