Breakdown

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:

EMCEE:
Mid 20s up. An androgynous, hyper-sexual entertainer who embodies Berlin in the 1930’s. Seeking a superb actor/singer/dancer.

SALLY BOWLES:
Mid 20s – Mid 30s. English. A charming, slightly manic nightclub singer with a faint aura of desperation. Seeking an actress who sings and dances well.

CLIFF:
Mid 20s – Mid 30s. American: Harrisburg, PA. Cliff is a handsome writer, briefly infatuated with the decadent glamour of pre-war Germany. At his core is a naive and tender romantic. Seeking an actor who sings.

ERNST:
Late 20s – Late 30s. German. An amiable, fairly nondescript looking friend of Sally and Cliff. In many ways the last person one would expect to join the Nazi party making his transformation all the more chilling. Seeking an actor who sings. MUST play one of the following instruments: trumpet, trombone, alto sax, tenor sax, clarinet, accordion, violin, cello, banjo

FRAULEIN KOST:
Late 20s – Late 30s. A blowsy, German prostitute working (not terribly discretely) out of Fraulein Schneider’s boarding house. Seeking a comic actress who sings and dances very well. Also doubles as a Kit Kat Girl. MUST play the accordion or the piano

FRAULEIN SCHNEIDER:
Mid 50s up. German. The owner of Sally and Cliff’s boarding house. A genteel, impoverished, middle-class woman, frightened by the Nazis, and ultimately too weak to stand against them. There is a hint of fading European glamour to her. Seeking an actress who sings very well.

HERR SCHULTZ:
Mid 50s up. German-Jewish. A warm, wise and funny middle-class man. He is helpless in the face of the quickly crumbling Germany around him. Seeking an actor who sings.
