DESCRIPTION
Set in 1944, On the Town is the story of three sailors on a 24-hour leave in New York City. Squeezed for time, they somehow manage to find love and incredible adventures in the Big Apple.
*Emmy winner Josh Bergasse (SMASH) will be creating his own choreography.
PRINCIPLES (8 AEA)
Gabey: a sailor. CAST. Performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. Enthusiastic and earnest, if a little rash. He falls head over heels with Ivy Smith, after just spotting her picture. 20s-30s. (Baritone: B flat-High A).
Chip: a sailor. Energetic if a little naïve. Determined to see every sight New York has to offer in 24 hours. The object of Hildy’s enthusiastic affection. 20s-30s. Must be a superb dancer. (Baritone: B flat-High G)
Ozzie: a sailor. Resident wise guy, he will follow anything in a dress. Particularly Claire. 20s-30s. Must be a superb dancer. (Character Baritone: F-High G)
Ivy Smith: an aspiring actress/lounge dancer. Miss Turnstiles of the Month and the object of Gabey’s affection. Elegant and spirited. 20s-30s. Must be a superb dancer, ballet and jazz. (Mezzo-soprano: Low C-High G)
Hildy: a female cab-driver, she rarely takes ‘no’ for an answer, especially from Chip. Bold and brassy. 20s-30s. (Mezzo-soprano: Low A-High G)
Claire de Loone: an anthropologist and semi-reformed guy-chaser. She tries to be cool and poised, but Ozzie brings out her wilder side. Engaged to Judge Pitkin. 30s-40s. (Soprano: Low F-High C)
Madame Dilly: Ivy’s vocal coach. An intimidating presence, she punctuates her notes with swigs of whiskey and a no-nonsense (if somewhat sloppy) demeanor. (Character Mezzo-soprano: Low C-High E flat)
Pitkin: a judge. A stately, yet portly man. He is an imposing presence, if a bit dim. Engaged to Claire. 40s-50s. (Bass: A-D)
AEA CHORUS (7)
All ensemble members must either be strong dancers (ballet and jazz) and/or strong singers. Some of their roles include:
Workman 1: Gruff, hard worker. Not thrilled to be at the yard at the crack of dawn. 20s-30s. (F-High E flat)
Flossie: Secretary. Prone to delusions of grandeur when recounting story of standing up to her boss. Non-singing role. 20s-30s.
S. Uperman: Hildy’s boss. Sick of her sleeping in the taxi, he’s fired her and expects the cab to be at the garage in an hour. It’s not and the chase is on. 30s-40s.
Waldo Figment: Fussy and professorial. Works at the Museum of Natural History.
Lucy Schmeeler: Hildy’s roommate. Sporting a horrible cold, she has a knack for interrupting Hildy and Chip’s romantic escapades. Finds a kindred spirit in Pitkin. 20s-30s. Non-singing role.
Chorus members will also play a variety of New Yorkers including Flossie’s friend, lounge owner, subway riders, etc.

DESCRIPTION
Southern Comfort tells the story of male transgendered Robert Eads and his tight-knit community of individuals, including his trans girlfriend Lola Cola, living in the back hills of 'Bubba Land' Georgia. When Robert discovers that he has ovarian cancer, he refuses to let it dampen his spirits or his determination to live life fully. The show is a celebration of a uniquely American family, living life openly, honestly, and courageously by choosing to remain in rural Taccoa, Georgia simply because it is the home they have grown to love.
PRINCIPLES
Seeking:
Female Actor/Singer/Instrumentalist: (25-45) Plays small female roles. – Alto/Mezzo (F below middle C - E above middle C) - natural, straight tone. Can play either guitar, string bass, or percussion. (Must be able to play their instrument well)
Jackson: (37-45) Female to Male transgender, played by a Male actor. An elfish man. Robert lovingly calls him a leprechaun. A tough, backwoods-looking type guy. Full of warmth and mischief, but struggling with a deep resentment and anger at the world around him. He has a father/son type relationship with Robert. Not afraid of confrontation. Protective of Robert and the trans community. At odds with Lola. - Tenor (D below middle C - A above middle C) - natural, folky voice (not an inkling of musical theatre tenor).
The following roles have been CAST. Actors will be considered for possible replacements if necessary
Robert Eads: CAST. Performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. (Early 50’s) Female to Male transgender, played by a Female actor. The patriarch/wise-man of a group of transsexuals living in a small backwoods town (Taccoa, Georgia). A leader. Kind, loving, good-humored, childlike at times and a wise old prophet at others. Masculine, gun toting. Fits in with the good ol’ boys that inhabit the area, although he doesn’t share their politics or bigotry. He always looks for the silver lining and encourages others to do the same. He’s living with ovarian cancer. The action of the story chronicles the last year of his life, leading up to the yearly “Southern Comfort” Transgender Conference in Atlanta. - Alto (E below middle C - second D above middle C) - natural, folky voice; weight and warmth to the voice.
Lola Cola (John): CAST. Performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. (40’s) Male to Female transgender, played by a Male actor. A tall, drag-queeny, broad-shouldered masculine woman, pre-op, not quite comfortable in her own skin. In a relationship with Robert Eads. Desperate to fit in. Dresses over the top, nothing like the rest of her SoCo counterparts. The outsider of the group. At times coquettish and southern belle-like. A petit princess in the body of a masculine man. At work, she still assumes the identity of her biological self: John, a service provider at a heating and cooling company. - Bari-Tenor (second A below middle C - F above middle C) - would be nice if they have a formidable falsetto (countertenor) but not absolutely necessary if we find someone who is truly channeling Lola.
Carly: CAST. Performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. (26-38) Male to Female transgender, played by a Female actor. Sexy, feminine, fun and confident. Maxwell’s girlfriend. Good humored and kind. Strong libido. A naughty catholic schoolboy turned naughty catholic schoolgirl. A newcomer to this specific group of transsexuals. - Mezzo (G below middle C - second D above middle C) - belter; should have a little more edge to her voice than the other female voices.
Sam: CAST. Performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. (38-48) Female to Male transgender, played by a Male actor. Introverted, masculine but soft and kind. Has a melancholy quality about him. A teddy bear of a man. A gentle giant perhaps. Cowardly Lion-esque. A man of few words. Good with his hands. Likes to fix and build things. He might almost be intimidating, were it not for his extremely gentle and somewhat sad demeanor. - Bari-Tenor (second A below middle C - F above middle C) - natural, folky voice; weight and warmth.
Melanie: CAST. Performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. (45-53) Biological Female. Played by a Female Actor. A handsome yet tired looking woman. Spirited and full of good humor, but apprehensive of the world around her. Comes off oddly conservative and old fashioned in a blue collar way. Has lived a hard life and it shows on her face. Married seven times to many emotionally and physically abusive men. In a relationship with Cass. Very protective and fearful of the consequences of being associated with this transsexual community. - Mezzo (E below middle C - E above middle C) - natural, folky voice.

(30-45) Plays small male roles. - Tenor (C below middle C - A above middle C) - natural, straight tone. Not a musical theatre tenor. Can play either guitar, string bass, or percussion.
