All roles listed below will double as other characters in the play, so the ability to create distinct, authentic characters is essential. We are ideally seeking actors that bear strong resemblances to the real-life historical counterparts.
SEEKING:
WALTER JENKINS, ET AL
Male, mid-40s, Caucasian. President Johnson’s Chief of Staff and loyal aide. A closeted homosexual. Has been with LBJ from the beginning and has a close bond with him. Smart and efficient. From Texas. Will also play other roles throughout.
ROBERT MCNAMARA, ET AL
Male, late 40s, Caucasian. Secretary of Defense; very bright and driven. A sharp military mind. Will also play other roles, possibly including Senator Eastland (racist, anti-civil rights Senator from Mississippi) and others.
HUBERT HUMPHREY, ET AL
Male, early-mid 50s, Caucasian. Senator from Minnesota who eventually becomes Vice President under President Johnson. Leader of Senate liberals and charismatic speaker, who crusades for civil rights. Smart and upstanding. Will also play other roles, possibly including Strom Thurmond (segregationist and racist member of the Southern Caucus) and others.
J. EDGAR HOOVER, ET AL
Male, mid-late 60s, Caucasian. First director of the FBI. Power-hungry, paranoid and corrupt. Will also play other roles, possibly including Senator Byrd (segregationist Senator from West Virginia) and others.
GEORGE WALLACE, ET AL
Male, mid-40s, Caucasian. Outspoken Governor of Alabama. Racist, colorful and brash; he is a political opportunist and strong opponent of LBJ. Makes his voice heard at every chance. Will also play other roles, possibly including Walter Reuther (down-to-earth civil rights activist and union leader) and others.
