It's Bobby's 35th birthday and you're invited to celebrate! Company, based on a book by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, features a series vignettes that follows Robert (Erick Sanchez), a bachelor about to celebrate his 35th birthday, and the friends trying to convince him - and themselves - of the joys of marriage.
There is Sarah & Harry with duelling vices (Kate Valiska & Bennett Cognato), the picture perfect Susan & Peter (Sara Parille & John Mudgett), the uptight and upscale Jenny & David (Janice Gabriel & Eli Patton), Amy & Paul who are engaged and about to be married (Lauren Brown & Steven Cognato), and the cynical Joanne & Larry (Karen Robinson & Chris Fay). We also meet Roberts current girlfriends (Alexis Willoughby, Anya Caravella, and Shannon Gaffney) who are almost, but not quite, right for Bobby.
Company was nominated for a record-setting fourteen Tony Awards and won six. Memorable songs include “The Little Things You Do Together”, “Sorry-Grateful”, “Another Hundred People”, “The Ladies Who Lunch””, “I‘m Not Getting Married”, “You Could Drive A Person Crazy”, and “Being Alive”.
The show is directed by Maureen Trotto, a graduate of Carnegie Mellon and former faculty of North Carolina School of the Arts who has directed many shows in the region. Recent shows at TBTA include Into The Woods, Sylvia, Thou Shalt Not Dance, ...Spelling Bee, and Carnival. Musical direction is by Brendan Fox who recently completed his Masters of Music Composition at Ithaca College. It features the playful and energetic choreography of the multi-talented Todd Santa Maria, and the creative landscape of Duane E. Langenwalter's scenic design.
Tickets are $20 general admission and $15 for students with ID.
