In 1977, musical theater and cabaret lover Linda Amiel Burns (whose father, Jack Amiel, owned two restaurants in the legendary incubator of pop music artists, the Brill Building) launched a performance workshop called The Singing Experience. Burns (holding microphone in photo), who is a two-time MAC Award winner and the President of the New York Sheet Music Society (www.NYSMS.org), is now in the midst of her 38th year as Director of The Singing Experience, which she describes as a workshop for "aspiring singers and anyone with a song in their heart to learn to conquer their fears and sing out with confidence in a non-competitive, nurturing, supportive, and encouraging environment." Since Burns' founded her workshop, she has directed nearly 500 sessions with more than 5,000 graduates, which has led to the booking of hundreds of cabaret acts and revues in various New York nightclub venues. The Singing Experience has been lauded by the media with appearances on The Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning and in a 2009 story in The New York Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/01/nyregion/01cabaret.html

The late cabaret legend Julie Wilson called The Singing Experience, "The best performance workshop there is and Linda's direction is magical." Ivan Farkas, a frequent Singing Experience performer recently won a MAC Award for "Best Musical Comedy" show.

Burns is about to launch the May/June Singing Experience Workshop (number 473 if you're scoring at home) and still has openings for intrepid singers, whether pros who need polishing or newcomers who need nurturing. As Burns says, "Whatever level you are at, The Singing Experience is for you." With Musical Director/Accompanist Richard Danley at the piano, the six-session May/June 2015 workshop-called HIT PARADE-will include four rehearsals at Studio 353 (353 West 48th Street) on Thursday evenings, May 21, May 28, June 4, and June 11, from 6:30-9:30 pm. The performance show, in which the participants perform solos and group numbers in front of friends, family, and cabaret lovers, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17 at Stage 72 (The Triad) at 7:30 pm. The group holds a "DVD Viewing Party" of the show (filmed by videographer Jeremy Handelman of Off The Leash Productions) on June 17, 7-10 pm.

Full tuition for The Singing Experience workshop is $485 and includes a two-hour videotape of the performance. For workshop alumni--of which there are many--the fee is $435. Enrollment is limited so a $200 deposit will hold one's place for that session. Tuition must be paid in full not later than one week prior to the first session of each workshop. Fees are non-refundable. There is another session slated for September/October with dates to be announced.
