The Bronx Opera invites you to follow the famed mischievous brother and sister into Ilsenstein forest and meet the echoing trees, the little Sandman, the 14 angels of protection, the little Dew Fairy, and emerge in front of the enormous gingerbread house and meet the evil Rosine Leckermaul ("Rosina Tastymuzzle"), the evil witch that turns children into gingerbread in this classic Humperdinck opera based on the famed Brother Grimm story.

Filled with parables about family life and struggles that ring true today, Hansel & Gretel is a delight for any age. Performances conveniently located in The Bronx and Long Island.

This fairy tale opera, based on the perennial classic story by The Brothers Grimm, was originally written by German composer Engelbert Humperdinck as a gift to his sister’s children (the libretto is written by his sister Adelheid Wette, in fact). It was first performed just prior to Christmas Eve, 1893.

Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel concludes BxO magical season, which includEd Williams’ The Poisoned Kiss at the start of the year.

This production features Yiselle Blum, Richard Bozic, Jennifer Caruana, Kian Freitas, Julie Anne Hamula, Jodi Karem, Gilad Paz, Elizabeth Perryman, Allison Pohl, Hannah Rosenbaum, Natalia Salemmo, Leslie Swanson, with covers Jennifer Gliere, Kerry Gotschall, Heather Roberts, and Jennifer Rossetti

The chorus for this production is made up almost entirely of children from RiverArts Children’s Chorus, part of the Rivertowns Arts Council in Hastings-on-Hudson: Madelyn Constantine, Sofie Cupal, Gweneth Humphreys, Sabrina Fein, Sidney Freireich, Emily Gefell, Jackson Janis, Allie Jobe, Griffin Joerger, Zachary Kotronis, Jasper Lincoln, Isaac Marouk-Coe, Danielle Mark, Nora Mark, Alex Weitzman, with John Carr and Marie Chantal Landais.
