The Free Sound Ahn-somble, the resident jazz ensemble of Tenth Intervetion, is set to perform tonight, April 15 with an appearance by guest artisti Samia.

With all the traditional elements of a big band, along with the modern and diverse compositional style of Dorian Wallace, The Free Sound Ahn-somble delivers an experience that is improvisational, honest, and from the heart.

The Free Sound Ahn-somble combines the styles of 20th/21st Century composers (Igor Stravinsky, Arnold Schoenberg) alongside fusion groove masters (Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman). Wallace's music, while complex, is accessible to audiences new to jazz, contemporary classical, avant-garde, and improvisatory art music.

The innovative, 17-piece jazz ensemble is under the direction of composer/pianist Dorian Wallace. With traditional elements of a true big band and the modern and diverse compositional style of Wallace, Dorian Wallace and The Free Sound Ahn-somble provides both an enjoyable and educational experience for the jazz novice and a challenging and surprising experience for more seasoned listeners.

With influences as wide-ranging as Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Freddie Mercury, and Aretha Franklin, Samia's music and voice are a soul-stirring, heart-thumping blend of rock, pop, blues, and soul.

The Free Sound Ahn-somble is the resident jazz ensemble of TENTH INTERVENTION, a new music consortium "of progressive-minded players and groups looking to dispense with some rules." (Time Out NY).

Since it's founding in 2010, the band has included local freelance musicians as well as performers of international acclaim, including Seneca Black (Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, The Mingus Big Band), Frank London (The Klezmatics, Frank London's Klezmer Brass Allstars), and Dmitri Kolesnik (Lenny White Quintet).

The Free Sound Ahn-somble will play at SOMETHIN' Jazz Club (212 E 52nd St, New York, NY 10022) on Tuesday, 15 April at 9:00 PM. $12 general admission. For more information, please visit http://www.tenthintervention.com/dorian-wallace-and-the-free-sound-ahn-somble.html.
