Los Angeles based Sargent has released a video for the track "Waltz (Foolish Desire)" today via BUST. The new project from Gretchen Lieberum, who is also known as one half of the Prince tribute band Princess with Maya Rudolph, will be releasing a self-titled debut LP on September 16. The video is a visual representation of the song's lyrics featuring whimsical animations to accompany "Waltz," a sweetly wafting ode to unrequited love. The full album, which was co-written and produced with her collaborator Jake Blanton (The Killers, Beck), is abundant in levitating lullabies and heart-ached ballads backed by cabaret-pop born of vintage instruments. Lieberum has earned a name for herself by venturing wherever creativity may take her. Though not classically trained, she was raised on the strains of Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, and Billie Holiday. Given the shorthand she shared with Jake, she would simply hum a melody to him and he would help craft the chords around it on a rickety, old upright piano that would come to be their secret weapon.

With Jake leaving to tour with bands such as The Killers, and Gretchen becoming pregnant with her son, Sargent took a hiatus, despite creating many near-completed songs. Long obsessed with Prince, Gretchen and actress-singer Maya Rudolph debuted Princess in 2011. By combining their formidable pipes to cover Prince's catalog, their sincere fandom in full show, the duo instantly became the most famous Prince cover band on the planet, playing everywhere from Carnegie Hall to The Tonight Show.

Cosmically speaking, Gretchen has Prince to thank for Sargent. Years of performing Prince tracks reminded Gretchen that she missed working on her own material. In digging up the Sargent songs and playing them for friends, she was eventually encouraged to release them. Reuniting with Blanton, the duo soon penned new tracks, while fleshing out some older ones, resulting in a self-titled debut album.
