Compare it to Le chien andalou, the Surrealist film by Bunuel and Dali. (There's a subtle allusion to Le chien in a close up of eyes about halfway through; no razor blade, thank God!)
I think Follies at the Roxy is brilliant! But what i feel while watching it is more important than what I think.

I've just learned that this photo of Marlene Dietrich as "Shanghai Lil" in Shanghai Express was used by David Edward Byrd to create the iconic poster for the 1972 Original Broadway production of Follies. How cool is that?
