The romantic and richly textured tale of East versus West, THE KING AND I, comes to The Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire, IL., opening tonight, October 29, and running through January 4, 2015. Nick Bowling (Juno and The Normal Heart at Timeline Theatre) makes his Marriott Theatre directorial debut with a fresh take on this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, merging history and romance with today's social and political issues. THE KING AND I takes audiences on an uplifting journey of the power of education as characters transform from instructor to students themselves, learning from one another in the process. In consultation with the Thai Cultural and Fine Arts Institute of Chicago, Bowling and Choreographer Tommy Rapley will explore ancient Siamese customs, dance and traditions, and bring them to life on stage.

Powerhouse runs from November 3 - 23, 2014 in a limited engagement at the New Ohio Theatre, located at 154 Christopher Street between Greenwich and Washington Streets in New York City. Today in 2009, Finian's Rainbow opened at the St. James Theatre, where it ran for 92 performances. Finian's Rainbow is a musical with a book by E.Y. Harburg and Fred Saidy, lyrics by Harburg, and music by Burton Lane. The 1947 Broadway production ran for 725 performances. Finian moves to the southern United States (the fictional state of Missitucky is a humorous combination of Mississippi and Kentucky) from Ireland with his daughter Sharon, to bury a stolen pot of gold near Fort Knox, in the mistaken belief that it will grow. A leprechaun follows them, desperate to recover his treasure before the loss of it turns him permanently human. Complications arise when a bigoted and corrupt U.S. Senator gets involved, and when wishes are made inadvertently over the hidden crock.

As announced yestdray, Neil Patrick Harris will soon come to NBC on a new primetime variety series based on the hugely popular U.K. format 'Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway,' which was created by ITV Studios, Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. The Tony and Emmy winner recently opened up to Charlie Rose on his five-year plan to become Ed Sullivan, intentions to bring Broadway performers and more to his NBC variety show. Check it out below!

According to the New York Post, John Kander and Fred Ebb's The Visit, which has been long-rumored for a Broadway run might be on its way to New York in 2015. Michael Riedel writes that book writer Terrence McNally, whose IT'S ONLY A PLAY is currently selling out the Schoenfeld Theatre, might be in the position to acquire funding from the play's producers and a theatre from the Shubert Organization.

One year ago today, actor/writer Joe Assadourian went from the cage to the stage when he was released from Otisville Correctional Institution after serving 12 of his 25-year sentence for attempted murder. Having discovered his theatrical ability while reluctantly participating in a workshop behind bars led by Off-Broadway solo-show actor/directorRichard Hoehler, he wrote The Bullpen, a one-man - 18-character comedy - which The New York Times calls 'wildly funny' and 'a must see' by Theatermania. Eric Krebs, in association with The Fortune Society, is presenting the 'tour de force' (The Huffington Post) at The Playroom Theater (151 West 46th Street - just east of Broadway). Performances began on June 22, 2014 where it was met with critical acclaim and has been extended twice - now through November 22.

Before Alysha Umphress and Jay Armstrong Johnson took on the iconic roles of Hildy and Chip, Lea DeLaria and Jesse Tyler Ferguson played them in the 1998 Broadway revival. In 2006, after a lengthy search, Argentinean actress Elena Roger became an overnight sensation starring in the title role in Michael Grandage's widely hailed production of EVITA in the West End and later brought the role to Broadway. A complete unknown to the rest of the world, Roger Starred in multiple theatrical productions and television shows in her native Argentina. Most recently Roger won the 2009 Olivier Award for Best Actress for her performance as Edith Piaf in The Donmar Theatre production of Piaf.
