2016 marks ten years since taxdeductible theatre began pulling plays out of a hat-literally. The company, which is dedicated to creating new works of theatre through collaboration, recently announced plans for a one-night-only retrospective, taking place on June 29th. The company will present selected works from the history of their series The Dare Project, including fan favorites and milestones in the company's development.

"It's incredibly exciting to look at all of the plays we've created over the years," said the company's Artistic Director Scott Casper, "and revisit them with today's company to share the pieces which will most engage our community."

For The Dare Project, writers base their scripts on a dare from our community, which can be anything-a genre, a line of dialogue, a character, whatever idea they want to commission our company to develop. The dares go into a hat, and our writers for the next production each take a shot of tequila, reach into the hat, and draw their dare.

Once dared, the company has a month to develop the scripts, and then another month to rehearse. Then, ready or not, the play is presented in front of a packed house as a one-night-only event.

Company co-founder, and now the Artistic Director of The Great American Melodrama in California, Dan Schultz said, "The Dare Project is a great incubator for theatrical expression. The dares force artists out of their comfort zone and inspire amazing creativity. The body of work created by the company over its first decade is extraordinary-and to think it all started with a few shots of tequila."

The Dare Project was first produced on June 26, 2006. On June 29th, taxdeductible theatre will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the project, revisiting the best pieces from its history of over 120 plays, written by more than 40 different playwrights, developed by the work of 200 plus contributing artists.
