This mid-career survey presents a selection of Fred Tomaselli's unique hybrid paintings and collages from 1990 to the present. The artist created two artworks specifically for the Brooklyn Museum presentation, Night Music for Raptors and Starling. Both paintings are large-scale painting collages that continue Tomaselli's recent exploration of individual birds. Also making their U.S. debut in the Brooklyn presentation is a group of twelve recently created works on paper. With gouache and collage, Tomaselli transforms the front page of The New York Times and uses it as a backdrop for his pictorial interventions. Media Preview begin for Fred Tomaselli
Thursday, October 7, 5-6 p.m.

An avid collector who is interested in botany and ornithology, Tomaselli amasses images of flowers and birds cut from books and combines these materials with paint under layers of clear epoxy resin, to create richly decorated surfaces. Fred Tomaselli includes more than fifty artworks and fourteen artworks were added to the Brooklyn Museum's presentation.

Members of the press are also invited to the opening reception from 6 to 10 p.m. that begins immediately after the Media Preview. Refreshments will be served.

Fred Tomaselli and the curator of the Brooklyn Museum presentation, Eugenie Tsai will be on hand to answer questions.
