Stephen Pevner Joins CALIGULA MAXIMUS as Lead Producer

Stephen Pevner joins producers Hammerstein Weiner LLC, Christopher McElroen, Alfred Preisser, and Kingsize USA, as lead producer of Caligula Maximus, currently playing at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre through April 17th. The outrageous theatrical extravaganza, combining elements of a circus, a play with music, and a nightclub installation, co-written by Alfred Preisser (ARCHBISHOP SUPREME TARTUFFE) and Randy Weiner (THE DONKEY SHOW) and directed by Preisser, is set on the last night of the notorious emperor's life.

As both a literary agent and a theater and film producer, Pevner has helped launch the careers of some of the strongest voices and indie hits of the past 20 years including Richard Linklater's SLACKER and DAZED AND CONFUSED, Gregg Araki's THE LIVING END, Todd Solondz' WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE, Even Ensler's THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, Neil LaBute's IN THE COMPANY OF MEN and BASH, Mindy Kaling and Brenda Wither's MATT & BEN and Beau Willimon's FARRAGUT NORTH. Pevner is also the impresario behind, THE SAINT AT LARGE, New York's longest running and most celebrated underground dance events including the world renowned THE BLACK PARTY. Celebrating its 30th season, the traveling nightclub has worked with and broken some of the biggest DJ's and dance music artists from Grace Jones and Slylvester to Jennifer Hudson. The company is now on tour with SCHWARZWALD - the movie you can dance to, a groundbreaking film combining multi-screen projection, live performance and a continuous dance track that has screened in nightclubs and film festivals in over a dozen countries.

Co-producer and co-writer Randy Weiner says, "We are very excited to have one of the entertainment industry's most forward thinking producers join us on this project. We are planning our next production of Caligula Maximus with Stephen Pevner at the helm in May of this year at a venue to be announced."

Ryan Knowles stars as Caligula, adult film star and Penthouse Pet Justine Joli as his wife Caesonia, Lady Circus troupe aerialist Anya Sapozhnikova as his sister Drusilla, Luqman Brown as Sulla, the peanut vendor and JerZ Short as circus master Helicon. The show features award-winning competitive bodybuilders Myra Adams and RoxAnne Edwards, Coney Island Sideshow tattooed muscleman Tim DAX and an outrageous collection of over two-dozen circus performers, wrestlers, showgirls and freaks.

Performances for Caligula Maximus, at the Ellen Stewart Theatre, 66 E. 4th St., are on Thursday and Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 8pm and 10pm, through April 17th.
