Poetic Theater Productions has announced that it will present VILLAGE ORPHEUS, an innovative play by Mickey Bolmer and directed by Daniel Roberts, that dives into the creative counterculture of New York's postwar Greenwich Village, July 11th and July 14th at The Wild Project (195 E 3rd Street), as part of the 2017 Fresh Fruit Festival. www.poetictheater.com

Bolmer's play celebrates the vivacity, emerging sexual liberation and boldness of Grennwich Village in the 1950s and 60s. Focusing on Frank O'Hara's central role in the artistic community, this neoclassical fantasy explores the parrallels between the myth of Orpheus and O'Hara's journey with his lover Joe Lesour, as a chorus of New York bohemians sing art and the Village back to life and love.

VILLAGE ORPHEUS will be performed as one act, and it will sequentially to W. Tré Davis's Damn Fool. The two one acts are being presented together as a program entitled "History of Love" in the Fresh Fruit Festival at the Wild Project.

The cast of VILLAGE ORPHEUS features Adam Wennick, Mateo d'Amato, Joshua Jacobson, SafiyA Martinez, Mario Brown, Tamara Geisler and Olivia Nice.

MICKEY BOLMER (Playwright) is an NYC playwright, living in California, works weaving sometimes seemingly disparate nodes of experiences, events and people into tapestries. Back, a 2 act tragedy party set on Varick St., NYC, Halloween, 1989, developed and produced by Poetic Theater Productions, ran sold out October 17-31, 2014. Verbs, Dear Lovers, a 3 min comic sonnet, was part of Love Re-defined 2017 Resist. Helen and SheS, a 20 min history, was part of Culture Project's "The War on Women." NOAH and the HOA, a 20 min comedy, ran sold out at the New Play House, October 2005. Village Orpheus is a one-act that was originally presented as a part of Mickey Bolmer's play BACK, presented by Poetic Theater Productions in October 2014 at the cell theater in Manhattan, New York.

The design team includes sound design by Sean Hagerty, choreography by Paulette Lewis and video and projection by Lisa Renkel. Stage management is by Ellen Mischinski. The associate director is Andrew Willis-Woodward.

Daniel Roberts (Director) is pleased to be diving once more into one of Mickey Bolmer's intricate pieces and to collaborate alongside the wonderful artists at Poetic Theater Productions. Recent directing credits include: The Tempest (Ophelia Theater Group), Drowning Ophelia (EagerRisk Theater and Ensemble Atria at the 2016 Philadelphia Fringe Festival). Daniel was assistant director to Red Bull Theater's election year production of Coriolanus (Barrow Street) this past fall. Future projects include his adaptation of Coleridge's epic The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Daniel is a board member of Ophelia Theater Group and a past Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab member.

Performances of VILLAGE ORPHEUS are on Tuesday, July 11th at 7PM and Friday, July 14th at 7:30PM.

Tickets can be purchased online at https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/cal/527. VILLAGE ORPHEUS is performed with Damn Fool as two one-acts under the title "The History of Love".
