Pasadena Playhouse Names John E. Alexander Director of External Relations

By:

Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Tom Ware, Producing Director) announced today that John E. Alexander will serve as their new Director of External Relations for the theatre. He will oversee The Playhouse's marketing, sales and community relations efforts and will be working to expand the theatre's exposure regionally and nationally.

"I could not be more pleased to welcome John to the staff of The Playhouse. I know that he will be a valuable addition to our theatre and that his fresh ideas about the most effective ways to celebrate our success and communicate our goals both to our patrons and to the field will serve us strongly, said Pasadena Playhouse Artistic Director Sheldon Epps. "We are most fortunate to have his experience, his knowledge and his enthusiasm in the service of our theatre."

Alexander's recent theatre experience includes development and general management projects at Broadway's Roundabout Theatre Company; Daryl Roth Productions in New York; and as assistant director for Dear Edwina, a new musical at Off-Broadway's DR2 Theatre. He has served as Director of External Relations at North Shore Music Theatre in Boston, where he oversaw marketing, public relations, fund raising and the redevelopment of the company's landmark facilities; Associate Director of Development at The Old Globe; and Director of Development for San Diego Performing Arts League.

John has also produced several large-scale conferences and events, including the PROMAX/BDA Awards in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Buenos Aires. His favorite experiences revolve around the 10+ years he spent as performer, production manager, tour manager and assistant to the producer for the international performing group, Up With People. He was also involved in building Mama's Kitchen, San Diego's meal delivery service for people with AIDS and was the organization's first Executive Director.

He has spent the last two years in New York City studying for an MFA in Theatre Management and Producing at Columbia University School of the Arts, which he will complete in April 2010. John lives in Los Feliz.
