Hughes to Direct Mauritius, with Pill & Cannavale, for Bway

Manhattan Theatre Club has announced that its upcoming Broadway production of Theresa Rebeck's Mauritius will be directed by Tony Award-winner Doug Hughes (Doubt, Inherit The Wind). The production will star Bobby Cannavale ("Will & Grace," Hurlyburly) and Alison Pill (Blackbird, The Lieutenant of Inishmore).

Mauritius will be the first production of MTC's 2007-2008 season. The production will begin previews at the Biltmore Theatre (261 West 47th Street) on Thursday, September 13 and will open on Thursday, October 4.  The play is a co-production with the Huntington Theatre Company (Nicholas Martin, Artistic Director; Michael Maso, Managing Director) which recently received the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Production for the world premiere production of the play.

"Jackie (Alison Pill) and Mary are half-sisters whose mother's death leaves them in possession of a rare stamp collection. But which sister actually owns the stamps? Which of three dealers can be trusted with their sale? And where do we choose to live: the present or the past? Tightly woven and ever-surprising, this sinister comedy marks Theresa Rebeck's Broadway debut. Mauritius is a gripping new play from the enterprising author of such acclaimed hits as The Scene, Bad Dates and Omnium Gatherum, for which Rebeck and her co-author were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama," state press notes.

Additional casting for the production will be announced at a later date.

Director Doug Hughes is currently represented on Broadway with the Tony nominated revival of Inherit The Wind starring Brian Dennehy and Christopher Plummer. Bobby Cannavale, an Emmy Award winner for his recurring role on "Will & Grace," will be making his Broadway debut with Mauritius. Alison Pill is currently starring in MTC's critically acclaimed hit production of Blackbird. For her work in Blackbird, Pill received Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Award nominations.

The creative team will include: John Lee Beatty (Scenic Design), Catherine Zuber (Costume Design), and David Van Tieghem (Original Music and Sound Design).
