FAR FROM HEAVEN Now Available for Licensing Through R&H Theatricals

The moving and heart-wrenching musical FAR FROM HEAVEN is now available for Professional Theatrical licensing from R&H Theatricals, and its score will be published by Imagem Music, each a division of the Imagem Music Group. Based on Todd Haynes' multi award-winning 2002 film starring Julianne Moore, the musical features music by Tony Award nominee Scott Frankel (Grey Gardens), lyrics by Tony Award nominee Michael Korie (Grey Gardens), and a book by Tony winner Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out).

The compelling story of FAR FROM HEAVEN revolves around Cathy Whitaker, who seems to be the picture-perfect wife and mother in 1957 suburban Connecticut. But roiling beneath the surface, secret longings and forbidden desires cause her world to unravel, with incendiary consequences. With a lush score that is both jazz-inflected and hauntingly lyrical, FAR FROM HEAVEN is a powerful story of romance, betrayal, and intolerance, as a woman grapples with her identity in a society on the verge of upheaval.

Produced in 2013 at Playwrights Horizons, FAR FROM HEAVEN starred Kelli O'Hara, Steven Pasquale and Isaiah Johnson, and was directed by Michael Greif. When adapting the award-winning film into a musical, the authors said "Our goal is to create musicals about the America we live in but without making it obvious. The audience at first believes it's seeing a period piece. Then the realization creeps up, 'Oh, this all still happens!'" "...So much of the film's emotional impact was heighted by the almost continuous film score. ...It was a short leap to putting lyrics into the characters' voices."
