Broadway Pedestrian Plazas Getting Glitzy Permanent Makeover

Since being installed in 2009 by New York's Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's the pedestrian plazas in Times Square and the Garment District below have significantly lightened up the flow of pedestrian traffic in one of the city's most congested areas.

Now plans are in the works to provide the city with a prettier and permanent street plaza.

"It will really become a true public space," Garment District Alliance President Barbara Blair Randall tells the Daily News.

The makeover is anticipated to take up two lanes of Broadway stretching from 35th Street to 41st Street, connecting Herald Square and Times Square.
