BWW Recap: SUPERGIRL Becomes Her Worst Self as Everything is 'Falling' Apart

Superhero? More like supervillain. On this week's episode of SUPERGIRL, Kara gets turned into the worst version of herself and everyone from Cat Grant to James to Alex has to deal with the consequences.

The episode opens with Cat Grant on a talk show being lauded as the "most powerful person in National City." When they ask her about SUPERGIRL, she says, "The most remarkable thing about SUPERGIRL is that she is the kindest person I've ever met." Meanwhile, our favorite superhero is out defending a little girl who's being bullied for wearing a SUPERGIRL shirt. #adorable

When Cat sends Kara to find Winn, she's shocked to discover him getting frisky with Siobhan in a storage closet. (I bet she'll think twice before using her super vision again.) Winn admits that he isn't sure what's going on between them but that he isn't stopping it.

Meanwhile, Kara finds out that Lucy quit her job and left National City. James tells Kara that their breakup didn't have anything to do with her or SUPERGIRL, but he does admit, "Maybe I didn't love her as much as I should have." Alex tells Kara that she should pursue a relationship with James, but Kara is concerned about being a rebound. When Kara asks her to name one rebound relationship that worked, Alex immediately supplies, "Kim and Kanye!" Definitely the funniest moment of the episode.

Senator Crane stops by the DEO to tell them that she's trying to get them more funding and resources and to personally thank Hank for his work. She's clearly putting the moves on him! Kara gets called away by a fire downtown where a fireman is trapped on the roof under a beam. SUPERGIRL quickly gets him free but she walks too close to a red glowing object that somehow affects her.

Kara comes into the office the next day in a skintight dress. (Not that she didn't look great, but...I love Kara's normal wardrobe!) There's clearly something off about her; she's harder and less sweet. Cat gives her tickets to an event in exchange for completing several tasks very well.

When Kara goes to fight an alien villain, she does the strangest thing yet: she lets him go, telling him he isn't worth her time. But when Alex finds her, she says that he got away. Back at the DEO, Kara and Hank fight and she tells him that he should go out and fight the aliens himself.

The next day at work, Kara uses Cat's personal elevator. Anyone else 100% as worried as Winn was? I have to give it to her though: her outfit looked amazing. Siobhan brings Cat footage of SUPERGIRL letting the alien go, but Cat refuses to publish it.

When Kara realizes that Siobhan is going to give the footage to someone else, she distracts her for long enough to print the email. She takes the evidence to Cat Grant that Siobhan was ready to give the footage to the Daily Planet. Unsurprisingly, Cat fires Siobhan and Kara is nearly gleeful.

Kara invites Winn and James to go with her to the event Cat gave her tickets to. She makes quite the entrance at the club, even causing the boys to comment on her new sexy look. She pulls James onto the dance floor, is dancing up on him, and insults Lucy. Anyone else hella uncomfortable? When Cat calls James, she decides to leave.

SUPERGIRL shows up to confront Cat. She insists that real people have a dark side, but Cat tells her, "You don't get to be a real person." SUPERGIRL says that she quits being a superhero and insults Cat. When Cat tries to threaten her, she demands, "You want to see what powerful really looks like?" She throws Cat over the side of the building and catches her just at the last minute. "True power, Cat, is deciding who will live and who will die," she tells her chillingly. This scene was so well acted, it absolutely stunned me. I'm totally ready for Melissa to get cast as a villain in something.

Winn and James go to the DEO to tell them that something is wrong with Kara. Alex and Hank figure out that there was synthetic kryptonite at the scene of the fire and Maxwell Lord is brought in. He was the one who created the red kryptonite, which he hoped to use on Non if he returned. He swears that he didn't think it would affect SUPERGIRL and says, "I'm sorry, Alex, I came here to make it right." When he suggests that he might be able to make an antidote, Alex lets him free. But she tells him, "You just turned SUPERGIRL into the monster you always feared she'd be."

Cat films a statement to publicly denounce SUPERGIRL. Winn and James try to convince her not to do it, but she reminds them that the public should know that they're in danger. It was an emotional scene; even Cat shed a tear. (Am I supposed to like Cat as much as I do?)

Alex goes to Kara's apartment to try to talk to her, but Kara's clearly gone off the deep end. She claims that Alex encouraged her to wear dowdy outfits to hide her beauty out of jealousy and sets her wardrobe on fire. She taunts Alex that she's always been jealous of her and even says, "We have never been sisters. We don't share blood." Even I was a little hurt by that one!

Senator Crane tells Hank and Alex that they need to take down SUPERGIRL, because she's a threat to the city. They go to confront her in the street outside CatCo with a team of DEO people. When Kara is about to hurt Alex, Hank morphs into the Martian Manhunter to save her. The Martian Manhunter and SUPERGIRL fight until Alex is able to shoot her down with a red laser gun. Alex encourages Hank to flee, but he turns himself in.

When Kara wakes up cured, she starts sobbing when she realizes what she did. "Every bad thought I've ever had, it just came to the surface," she tells Alex. Honestly, I think this was some of the best acting we've seen from Melissa Benoist yet. She apologizes to Alex who obviously forgives her.

Alex goes to Hank's prison cell to ask him why he turned himself in. He responds, "I would spend a thousand years in this cell if it meant keeping you and your sister safe." I think my heart actually broke in two!

Kara apologizes to James for what Evil-Kara said about Lucy, but he isn't convinced. She finally admits that she was jealous of her and confesses, "I would be jealous of anyone you loved." She's on the verge of admitting her feelings for him when he stops her and says that he needs time. It's a huge tribute to Melissa and Mehcad Brooks that the James and Kara storyline still is compelling, despite being will-they-won't-they all season long.

The episode ends with SUPERGIRL going to apologize to Cat Grant. She tells her that she was scared by the darkness inside her and is worried that the people of National City will never trust her again. Cat reassures her that if anyone can win the city back, it's her.

Will the people of National City learn to trust SUPERGIRL again? Will James and Kara work things out? What was that going on between Siobhan and Winn? Hopefully we'll get answers on next week's episode.
