Phaedo at Etcetera Theater

The Yale Bookends present Phaedo a playful and poignant take on the trial and death of the Greek philosopher Socrates. Based directly on Platos Phaedo and Apology, this play breathes life into these foundational Western texts. A cast of four reimagines and relives Socrates final hours in an Athenian prison cell as he philosophizes on the nature of forms and vividly describes the afterlife that awaits him. Realized on stage, Platos words take on an urgency lost in the classroom; Socrates sacrifice becomes tragedy, not mere abstraction. This show is a celebration of the intellectual life.The Yale Bookends is an experimental theater group hailing from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, which approaches classical theater with wonder and scholarly attention to the text. Phaedo is adapted from Plato and directed by Leo Egger and stars Daliya Habib, Dominic Sullivan, and Adrien Rolet.
