Interview: Apollo Civic Theatre Will Play BINGO: THE WINNING MUSICAL

By: May. 12, 2016

Get ready to call out "Bingo!" (literally) as Bingo: The Winning Musical debuts at the Apollo Civic Theatre in Martinsburg, WV this weekend!

Directed by Jeff Wine, Bingo: The Winning Musical tells the story of a group of die-hard Bingo fans who will stop at nothing to attend their weekly game. Best friends Vern, Honey and Patsy face a terrible storm in order to attend the yearly celebration of the birth of Bingo. While at the Bingo hall, the power goes out and, by the end of the game, lovers and long-lost friends may be reunited!

The cast enjoyed bringing their quirky characters to life and working closely with each other on a small ensemble musical.

"The most enjoyable part of the rehearsal was the opportunity to work with such talented and dedicated people who give selflessly of their time and effort" said Jae Dowell, who plays Minnie. "Every rehearsal was fun and extremely productive" said Shona Gardner, who plays Honey.

"I enjoyed how close this cast got. We always would have a good laugh about something!" said Caitlin Cutright, who plays Alison.

In addition to watching the musical onstage, audience members also have the chance to participate in the show by playing a game of Bingo along with the characters, and the actors are eager for some audience involvement as the show opens this weekend.

"It is very funny, the music is great. People get to play bingo along with the cast. Everyone loves a bit of audience participation, plus all the characters are very lovable" said Gardner. "This show is a laugh riot. Plus, you get to play bingo and win prizes!" added Sera Drevenak, who plays Vern.

"We play actual bingo games with the audience. They become a part of the show, and can actually win prizes. It's a high quality, inexpensive night of entertainment" said Dowell.

"This show is a lot of fun and it has some great audience interactions. Its going to be hilarious, quirky, and, most importantly, heart warming." said Cutright

Bingo: The Winning Musical also features Denise O'Brien as Patsy, Larry Marcille as Sam/Frank and Sara Gordon as Bernice. Bingo: The Winning Musical runs May 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 8:00 PM and May 15 and 22 at 2:30 PM. Tickets are $15 for Friday and Saturday evening shows and $12 for Sunday matinees. Student tickets are $10 for all performances. The Apollo Civic Theatre is located at 128 East Martin Street, Martinsburg, WV, 25402.
