Theatre du Jour Presents NIGHTMERICA at DC Arts Center, 10/26-11/4

By:

Nightmerica, directed by B. Stanley, will be presented by Theatre du Jour for six performances at DC Arts Center, Fridays Saturdays and Sundays at 7:30 pm, October 26-November 4, 2012.

Take a break from the election frenzy and check in with your patriotic indoctrination with Theatre Du Jour’s multi-media romp through American history and histrionics. The American Dream, immigration, and U.S. superiority are all fair game in a performance that is by turns funny, profound, touching and irreverent. Live action scenes are interspersed with sound and video barrages to create a “Saturday Night Live” type sketch show. What exactly are the words to the song “Davey Crockett?” Can the questions asked of applicants for US citizenship seem like an interrogation on “Law and Order?” And who in fact, are “real” Americans? All this and more will assail your patriotic sensibility in the show that asks not what you can do your country, but what has your country done toy you?

Tickets are $20.00 or $15 for DCAC members. The show runs at DC Arts Center, located at 2438 18th Street NW, Washington, DC. Reservations/info: 202-462-7833 or visit www.dcartscenter.org.

The District of Columbia Arts Center is a nonprofit arts space dedicated to promoting the freshest, most under-recognized artists in the Washington metropolitan area. Comprised of a 750 square foot gallery and a 50 seat black box theater, DCAC has been in the heart of Adams Morgan since its founding in 1989. Its dynamic and eclectic visual arts exhibitions and performance events has received local, national and international reviews. We encourage an ongoing dialogue between new artists and the greater arts community and assist artists in both the business and craft of art. Poets, painters, actors, storytellers, sculptors, and performance artists from around the corner and around the world are drawn to DCAC and it remains a mainstay of the Washington, DC arts community.
