Photo Flash: First Look at Alex Brightman in The Hub Theatre's HOW I PAID FOR COLLEGE

By:

Marc Acito's new play with music or monological, HOW I PAID FOR COLLEGE will premiere at THE HUB THEATRE this Friday, December 7, 2012. The production features Alex Brightman in a one man tour-de-force, and is directed by The Hub's Artistic Director, HELEN PAFUMI. Inspired by his own misspent youth, Acito describes the story as "just true enough to be embarrassing to my family." Published in 2004, Acito's novel How I Paid for College won the Ken Kesey Award for Fiction and was hailed as a New York Times "Editors' Choice." Playwright Marc Acito returns to the Washington, DC area where he won the Helen Hayes Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical for his comedyBIRDS OF A FEATHER, which premiered at The Hub Theatre last season. Acito is also the co-book writer of the Broadway-bound musical ALLEGIANCE, starring Tony winner Lea Salonga and Star Trek legend George Takei, as well as the book writer of a musical adaptation of E. M. Forster's A ROOM WITH A VIEW, both at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.

The play features Alex Brightman in his Hub Theatre debut playing 20 roles. His Broadway credits include Boq in WICKED and Will/Jack in GLORY DAYS. Other credits include the World Premiere of NOBODY LOVES YOU at The Old Globe in San Diego, the World Premiere of 35MM in New York City, the regional premiere of THE HISTORY BOYS at The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, and NEXT TO NORMAL at the Pioneer Theatre in Utah. He was also featured on Royal Pains on USA and was a recurring role on Important Things w/ Demetri Martin on Comedy Central. Alex is currently in development of a new musical, MAKE ME BAD, which he wrote with composer-lyricist Drew Gasparini.
