Wolverhampton Grand Theatre Presents BRUMMEGEM

By:

Written by Malcolm Stent and Don Maclean, BRUMMEGEM PALS is the story of best mates Jackie Moore and Danny Arrowsmith, seventeen years of age and intent on abandoning their apprenticeships in favour of adventure. With just two performances only at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Tuesday 25 - Wednesday 26 October 2016.

The summer of 1914 heard the threat of war rumbling around Europe and by August Britain was at war with Germany. Jackie and Danny are Brummie lads, best friends since school who enlist in the 14th and serve together all through World War 1, from recruitment and training, through the Battle of the Somme, Italy and back to France. They experience the full horrors and inhumanity of war, fear, death, the squalor of the trenches, gas attacks and incompetent leadership, tempered only by the comradeship of the men they serve with and their love for their families at home.

Malcolm Stent is one of Birmingham's funniest and most popular entertainers. He's a comedian, singer, actor, radio presenter, after-dinner speaker, author and playwright. He writes, directs and stars in the annual pantomime at the Solihull Arts Complex and he performs with the Salvation Army Band in "Malcolm Stent's Songs of Praise." His plays Go and Play Up Your Own End, Go and Play Further and A League Apart have been staged around the Midlands. He is the co-writer of Brummegem Pals, Back To Back and Wait Till Your Father Gets Home with Don Maclean.

Don Maclean is one of the country's leading comedians and after dinner speakers, and is heavily in demand on the corporate circuit. He has appeared regularly on TV and radio, and in cabaret and theatre all over Great Britain, including London Palladium seasons, Royal Command Performances and pantomime. He is one of the most accomplished dames in pantomime. His many appearances on TV include Crackerjack and The Black and White Minstrel Show, which he hosted for three years on TV and five years on stage, The Good Old Days, The Billy Cotton Bandshow and The Roy Castle Show. He was the host of Radio 2's religion-and-music showGood Morning Sunday. In 2001 he was awarded the MBE for services to ecumenism.

Don Maclean and Malcolm Stent lead a cast of thirteen. With songs specially written for the play and some familiar songs and music from the trenches this is the moving story of two ordinary boys, their lives and loves and their families caught up in the horrors of the war to end all wars.
