The Capstone Theatre Launches Spring 2019 Season Image

The Capstone is delighted to announce the launch of its spring 2019 season, which runs from late January to May 2019, and promises an eclectic selection of artistic treats with contemporary music, jazz, world music, dance and dramatic performances, and film screenings.

The season boasts two festivals, including the seventh incarnation of Liverpool International Jazz Festival (Thu 21 - Sun 24 Feb), and international combined arts festival The Angel Field Festival (Fri 22 - Sat 30 Mar), a brand-new addition to Liverpool's cultural calendar. In addition, there is a scattering of performances from Capstone regulars Milapfest, Liverpool Mozart Orchestra, Allerton Brass and others.

The season opens on Sat 26 Jan with The Big Blind, a storytelling show fusing fairy tales from Norway, Scotland, Ireland and India with live performances of contemporary Scandinavian folk music. This is followed on Sun 27 Jan with Travelled Companions production 5 More Minutes, a funny and magical show for children aged 3-6 and their families which explores the fun, frustration and fantasy of bedtime.

Some early season highlights include concerts by David Helbock's Random/Control Trio, Strobes, Kit Downes and Tom Challenger, Darius Brubeck's Quartet, Atom String Quartet and VEIN (all performing as part of Liverpool International Jazz Festival).

New for 2019, The Angel Field Festival builds upon the rich tradition of The Cornerstone Festival. The festival's content will be shaped by key historical events all marking key milestones in 2019, including: 50 years since the first moon landing; 30 years since the demolition of the Berlin Wall; 30 years since the end of the Ceausescu regime in Romania; 100 years since the Bauhaus; and the commencement of Brexit.

Later in spring audiences are treated to music from Ian Boddy (Sat 2 Mar); a presentation of composer Andrew Poppy's new work Hoarse Songs (Fri 12 Apr); Knot, an exhilarating dance performance influenced by circus performance (Tue 2 Apr); and three concerts celebrating the legacies of popular artists, Joni Mitchell, Ray Charles and Stephane Grappelli: Court and Spark - The Joni Mitchell Songbook (Fri 26 Apr), Jeremy Sassoon's Ray Charles Project (Sat 11 May), and John Etheridge's Sweet Chorus (Fri 24 May).
