The Bridge Theatre to Present 179 HACKNEY ROAD, Today-31
Frazer Flintham's darkly comic, dynamic new play, 179 Hackney Road explores where our society has come from and where we might be heading. Set in 1953, 1983 and 2013 this building has witnessed the changes of society and follows those socially disconnected within this East End environment.
Writer Frazer Flintham was awarded a place on the BBC's Writing for Radio SPARKS Scheme 2010-this resulted in his first Radio 4 Afternoon play commissioned BLURRED. This was closely followed by three other plays commissioned for BBC Radio 3 including We Are Mermaid (2012). His latest play, 179 Hackney Road, is collaboration with the Bridge Theatre Company.
The Bridge Theatre Company are 14 recent graduates from The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. They aim to create innovative theatre that challenges its audience and reflects the society in which we live, offering an authentic voice to explore the attitudes and experiences of young people today. From the rise of the teenager to depths of recession, 179 Hackney Road embodies The Bridge Theatre Company's ethos to challenge the common perceptions surrounding young people today.
Director Paul Edwards has worked extensively as a theatre practitioner and director. Directing credits include productions of The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Animal Farm and 1984 for Stafford Gatehouse Theatre. Paul's work also includes a contemporary re-imagining of Ibsen's Peer Gynt as well as The Arsonists by Max Frisch in response to the 2011 riots, with Southwark Playhouse's Young Company.
