'Not even a lion rejects her cubs. I have to know why she done it.'

Brenton Brown has never known his parents. A brutal feud with the killer Terry Flynn has scarred him for life. As a care leaver living in a hostel he craves the support of a family. But when he meets his mother and his beautiful half-sister, his life changes forever. Reggae and soul music suffuse the fabric of the story and the rumblings of the Brixton riots threaten to burst.

The Big House stages high profile productions with young people who have been in care. This award-winning company is back with an exploration of Brixton Rock - the debut novel of care leaver Alex Wheatle MBE, winner of 2016 Guardian children's fiction prize. This is phase one of a three-phase development period of turning this novel into a piece of musical theatre.

Brixton Rock is on at Mangle nightclub in London Fields between the 15th of February and the 12th of March and tickets are currently on sale here on Billetto.

Directed by Ned Bennett, winner of UK Theatre Award for Best Director 2015.
