Sainsbury's Navigation Street Local and Birmingham Hippodrome have joined together as Charity Partners for 2013/14 in support of the theatre's Education, Access and Community work.

Birmingham Hippodrome's Eve Smith said: "We are delighted to be working with the team at Sainsbury's on Navigation Street and hope that this is the start of a great fundraising year to benefit a wider audience."

The partnership has got off to a great start with a donation of £250 from the Sainsbury's Community Budget scheme, which is funded by sales of 'Bags for Life'. For customers at Sainsbury's Birmingham, buying a 'Bag for Life' means that they are not only doing great things for the environment but also making a contribution to their local community.

All money raised over the next 12 months will help fund the theatre's assisted performances for disabled patrons; the workshops in schools; and weekly drama and theatre experiences for local disadvantaged community groups.

Andy Leek, Sainsbury's Navigation Street Store Manager said "It's been fantastic to see the way everyone has pulled together in store since we started working with Birmingham Hippodrome. Staff are really enjoying coming up with new and unusual ways to support and volunteer for this very worthy cause, and it's great to think that we're making a positive difference to so many people in our community."
