Panto-lovers are in for a treat as Parr Hall's latest musical production delights audiences on its opening night.

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood got off to a rip-roaring start at the first public performance in Warrington on Friday, complete with plenty of "oh no he didn't" and lots of "it's behind you".

Director Phil Beck, who plays the dame Nurse Nellie, was delighted by the reception he and his fellow cast members received on their first night in Warrington.

"We always get a warm welcome here but I'd forgotten just how much Warrington's boys and girls love a panto!

"We're so excited to be taking part in this production of Robin Hood and we hope the audiences continue to enjoy themselves as much as we do."

This tall tale follows the tyrannous Prince John whose quest to become King of England reveals some dark and terrible secrets.

Following the death of his brother King Richard, Prince John finds that his deepest desire is suddenly within grasp - but just two small things stand in his way: his brother's children.

In a fiendish bid to seize the crown, the villainous prince enlists the help of the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham to have his brother's children kidnapped and killed.

Following these shameful orders, "the babes" are eventually taken away by the sheriff's hopeless henchman Snarly, who finds he is unable to kill the children so abandons them in the woods instead.

Left to fend for themselves in the wilderness all hope seems to run out for the babes.

But help is never far away as the gallant Robin Hood defies the evil Prince John and attempts to save the day with the aid of the bumbling Silly Billy and Nurse Nellie.

Can our hero rescue the babes from their terrible fate? And will he win the hand of the beautiful Maid Marian?

There's only one way to find out...

Full to the brim with traditional slapstick humour, toe-tapping tunes for all the family and, of course, an evil villain you will love to hate, Tony Peers' latest production is guaranteed to be a show you'll remember for years to come.
