New Family Show PINOCCHIO: THE BOY WITHIN Comes To Life At The Epstein Theatre Liverpool-based theatre company Cuckootales, present a brand new and enchanting family show, Pinocchio: The Boy Within - coming to The Epstein Theatre on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 July.

This original production is written and directed by Pauline Morris and Gemma Hurst with music arranged and recorded by Felix Hagan and is performed by a local Liverpool cast who are joined by Helen O'Grady Drama Academy.

Characters from the shabby and sinister, to the pure and ethereal combine with a visually striking set. Puppets and costumes will capture the imagination of audiences of all ages, and the host of memorable songs are guaranteed to have everyone singing along.

Carlo Collodi's classic story tells of the impoverished carpenter who lovingly carves a puppet son, Pinocchio. Magically springing to life but struggling with the 'truth' he embarks on a journey facing moral temptation and mortal peril. Finding that his nose grows with every lie he tells, Pinocchio ultimately overcomes all obstacles to find 'the boy within.'

This adaptation packed with humour focusses on the human bonds of friendship, family and compassion. The timeless setting seems an unlikely and somewhat 'grubby' backdrop for our heroes but it is one capable of showing that 'magic truly is a wonderful thing.'

Tickets are on sale now.

The 11am show on 24th July will be a Relaxed Performance, perfect for anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed performance environment - including those with an autism spectrum condition or learning disability. There will also be a 'Meet and Greet' with the cast after this performance.

The Epstein Theatre (formerly known as The Neptune) was originally opened as Crane's Music Hall in 1911, and was a popular location for recitals and performances. It was renamed Crane Theatre in 1938. In 1967 the theatre was purchased from the Cranes by Liverpool Corporation, who decided that the theatre should be run by local people for local people and was named The Neptune Theatre. The Neptune also became a comedy club and after many years of uncertainty about the future of the theatre, it eventually closed in 2005. In July 2011, a £1million refurbishment of the theatre was completed which saw the Hanover Street venue brought up to 21st century standards and renamed 'The Epstein Theatre' in honour of former Beatles manager Brian Epstein, who guided the Fab Four from popular cellar act to global superstardom. The management contract was up for tender and was won by the well-established team behind Liverpool's annual Sound City Music Festival. The Theatre was officially opened on Wed 9th May 2012. Now an independent company Epstein Theatre Ltd, the venue has grown to become of the key venues for arts and live entertainment in the city with a strong programme of comedy, plays, live music and children's productions. The venue can also be hired out for private functions, weddings and conferences.
