Magician Sylvia to Hold London Horror Festival Spellbound

An extraordinary magical experience that has just gained rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe will appear before your very eyes at a prestigious festival in London over two nights.

Phantasmagorical stars Miss Sylvia Sceptre, a time travelling magician who takes her audience back to Victorian England in a performance combining Magic and Mind Reading in a macabre and eerie tale inspired by the female Victorian Spiritualists.

The show takes place at the Old Red Lion Theatre on October 22 and 23 as part of the London Horror Festival - a month long event held around the spooky goings on of Halloween.

Phantasmagorical and Sylvia Sceptre were created by Careena Fenton, a member of the Magic Circle, and brings thrills and chills to her audience with an hour-long spellbinding performance focusing on impossible mind-reading, psychological artifice and Victorian seance.

Careena has enjoyed amazing success with audiences across the country and most recently wowed the crowds with her show at the Edinburgh Fringe and Buxton Fringe.

A review by FringeGuru said: "Phantasmagorical stands out among the plethora of magic shows at the Edinburgh Fringe. . .the magic is well worked and at times genuinely befuddling".

A ThreeWeeks review said: "Miss Sylvia is a time travelling clairvoyant who never fails to captivate the audience. . . a unique blend of comedic eccentricity and dark storytelling....an intriguing experience to remember."

Careena said: "Sylvia Sceptre really has taken on a life of her own and the show has been tremendously successful. There is nothing like performing in front of an audience when the atmosphere is electric and they seem totally absorbed with what I am doing.

"Phantasmagorical is all about a Victorian adventure among the spirits and the reaction I get to the show never fails to give me a real buzz.

"The reviews from my first shows at Edinburgh and Buxton were overwhelming and it certainly makes all of the hard work worth it.

"The London Horror Festival is an ideal platform for Sylvia and I am really looking forward to the two performances towards the end of October. It should be another magical experience!"

London Horror Festival runs from October 7 until November 3 and is the UK's original and largest festival of live horror performances. The festival was launched in 2011 and is billed as a celebration of the ghoulish, thrilling and macabre.

There are performances during the month to cater for all tastes, from family friendly events to those aimed at the more mature crowd. The Old Red Lion Theatre was opened as an off-West End venue in 1979.

Tickets for Phantasmagorical are priced at £10 (£8 concessions) and the show is suitable of an audience aged 16 and over.
