Lisa Dwan Leads BESIDE THE SEA at the Southbank Centre March 7-8

HighTide Festival Theatre and Mighty Mouth Productions have announced previews of Beside the Sea by Veronique Olmi, starring Lisa Dwan, at the Southbank Centre 7-8 March 2012.

About the show: "Veronique Olmi's play, based upon her début novel, handles an aspect of motherhood rarely admitted, often denied. This timeless drama has the trajectory of a classic tragedy with its taut time-span and sense of inevitability, as we witness a woman eroded by an inescapable fatal flaw. A single mother takes her two sons on a trip to the seaside. They stay in a hotel, drink hot chocolate and go to the funfair. She wants to protect them from a cold and uncomprehending world. It will take the ultimate sacrifice."

Lisa Dwan returns to the Southbank Centre following her performance of Beckett’s Not I. Artistic Director of HighTide Festival Theatre Steven Atkinson directs following his production of Lidless, which won a 2010 Fringe First Award and transferred to the West End.

Following previews at the Southbank Centre the production has its world premiere at HighTide Festival 2012 in May.

HighTide Festival Theatre was founded in 2007 to discover, produce and champion emerging playwrights. HighTide produces an annual Festival in Suffolk from which it has transferred productions nationally and internationally, including to London with the Bush Theatre (2008), National Theatre (2009), Old Vic Theatre (2010), West End (2011) to the Edinburgh Festival (2008/10/11) and internationally to the Australian National Play Festival (2010).

HighTide Festival 2012 will be held in venues throughout Halesworth, Suffolk, May 3 until 13. The full programme will be announced February 7th. Beside The Sea will transfer from the Southbank Centre to the Festival.
