King's Arms Theatre Hosts MASHED UP NORTH Festival, Now thru Feb 23
Following the critical success of Little Shop of Horrors, the King's Arms Theatre artistic director James Baker is delighted to announce the venue's next big in house event Mashed Up North. The festival is the first of it's kind under the artistic oversight of Baker and will for the first time at the venue make use of the newly refurbished main theatre space and also the new intimate 25 seat Studio 1 space.
Mashed Up North is an experimental new season giving ambitious directors the chance to get their teeth into classic works and mould them into fresh and original shapes. The results are fascinating, supplying a completely new direction for certain pieces and generating a surprising new sense of relevance for others.
Shows in this inaugural season include Noel Coward's Design for Living (5th-8th Feb), directed by John Mulleady, Bill Naughton's Spring and Port Wine (12th-15th Feb), directed by Paul Blinkhorn, and Rose Biggin's Victor Frankenstein (19th-22nd Feb), directed by Amy Liptrott. Mulleady shifts the work to a brand new viewpoint where it inherits completely inverted versions of many of its original themes. Naughton relocates his work to a part of the world where the weight of its politics and morals alters almost beyond recognition. Liptrott presents a fresh adaptaion of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein by injecting a truly shocking twist.
Mashed Up North will give audiences the chance to celebrate the classics by embracing change, reinvention and a desire to push forward in theatrical form and presentation.
