Carnival Queen Competition Comes To Circo For Brazilica 2018 Brazilica is set to return to the city this month in glorious fashion, and anticipation is building for one of the festival's most popular events - The Carnival Queen Competition, which comes to Liverpool's Circo Bar on Friday 13 July.

Hosted by Radio City 2's Claire Simmo, this free event - which is open to the public, is set to be hotter than ever before with a record number of entrants all vying for the coveted Carnival Queen crown.

2017 saw Revolución de Cuba alight with the fiery samba routines and this year promises even more excitement than ever as the competitors perform their most glittering routines in stunning costumes of only the brightest colours.

With 13 contestants from all over the UK competing this year, it is set to be the fiercest competition yet! This year's entrants include Liani Devito, Lais Lazzarini, Miriam Kamara, Oalafile Lyla Robbyn Brobbel, Sally Thompson, Katka Crinion, Sophia Best, Thali Bento, Sara Omar, Esther Hernandez, Joanne Johnson, Drusilla Taszarek, and Katucha Bento.

There can be only one winner and with a team of judges, featuring Paris Thompson (Brazilica Queen 2016), Paula Santos (Brazilica Princess 2012), Helen Jones (Radio Merseyside), and Cllr Anna Rothery (Liverpool City Councillor), facing the task of narrowing down the many carnival hopefuls to just one queen, audiences can rest assured that only the very best will take home the crown.

Last year's winner Wendy Okali will pass her carnival crown onto the queen of 2018 whose night will have only just begun as she prepares to carry the celebrations deep into the night.

The deserving winner will find herself at the very forefront of the extravagant event that is the night-time Carnival Parade the following day. The parade will give festival goers and passersby an opportunity to taste the real flavours of Brazil with bands from across the UK and overseas performing in the streets and lighting up Liverpool with a blaze of Brazilian samba.

Entry is free and the Carnival Queen Competition is not only the perfect way to get into the spirit for the rest of the Brazilica Festival but an explosive start to a weekend which brings the whole city to life with colour, music and samba rhythms.

Be sure to get yourself down to Circo and experience an authentic Brazilian vibe here in Liverpool and witness for yourself who takes crowning glory in this year's Carnival Queen Competition.
