Box Tale Soup Stages New Adaptation of NORTHANGER ABBEY at Brighton Fringe, Now thru June 2

By:

Mention Jane Austen or period drama and many will think of lavish costumes adorned with frills, National Trust properties and sedate Sunday evening telly. It is a claim met with some scepticism then, when theatre company Box Tale Soup say they can conjure up the world of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey with just two performers, a vintage trunk and a troupe of puppets. Sit down and watch the first few minutes of this unique adaptation however, and any scepticism is quickly replaced by wide-eyed wonder as Noel Byrne and Antonia Christophers deliver a breath-taking version of this classic novel.

A brand new adaptation written by the company, featuring handmade puppets, props and costume, the show is a great opportunity to see a fresh and inventive take on Austen's classic story of gothic romance and misadventure at Brighton Fringe. Performers Noel and Antonia have appeared in shows such as Doctor Who, HBO's Game of Thrones, BBC's The Hour and CBBC's Mission 2110, and are now very excited to be bringing their own work to the Fringe Festival.

Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey will play today, May 11th/12th, June 1st/2nd, 1.00pm at Upstairs at Three and Ten. Tickets are £9.50 / £8.00 Available from Brighton Fringe website, or from Upstairs at Three and Ten. Box Office - 07800 983290.

Formed in 2011, Box Tale Soup aims to create genuinely fresh interpretations of classic works and financially viable theatre. Their first production, Northanger Abbey, does exactly that: theatre on a proverbial shoe-string that maintains the highest quality and is totally unique.
