Aicon Gallery Presents Raghu Rai's Solo Exhibition, 16 June - 9 July
Aicon Gallery presents Raghu Rai's solo exhibition 'Invocation to India' from 16 June through 9 July, 2011. The exhibition is a tour of his solo museum presentation that took place at the New Art Exchange, Nottingham as part of the Format International Photography Festival 2011, curated by Saleem Arif Quadri. We are particularly pleased to be able to offer these works, all with museum provenance, to our clients.
For over forty-five years Raghu Rai has returned to the subject of the outdoor space in India, revealing something particular and complex about the relationship between the public sphere and the private sphere in India. We can think about the public sphere are the street, the pavement, the park; the outdoor spaces through which we pass and re-pass. In Western Modernism this is often depicted as a space where atomised individuals largely ignore each other. Rai seems to suggest that the public sphere of India is significantly different - and ultimately dissolves the easy distinction between public and private
