The Sheldon Presents Chopin & Paderewski

By:

The Sheldon presents Chopin & Paderewski, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 8 p.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall. Pianist Peter Henderson performs the glorious music of two Polish giants - Frederic Chopin, on the 200th anniversary of his birth, and Ignacy Jan Paderewski on his 150th birthday. Kristin Ahlstrom and Anne Fagerberg join Henderson as part of the Ilex Trio. From Paderewski's Menuet à l'Antique in G major and Elegy in B-flat minor, to Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat major and Piano Trio in G minor, this special evening of chamber music is sure delight.

A versatile and inquisitive pianist, Peter Henderson is much in demand as a chamber musician. A member of the St. Louis-based Ilex Piano Trio, Henderson also partners in a duo formed in 1999 with noted German violist Roland Glassl, a member of the Mandelring String Quartet. As a freelance pianist, Henderson performs in collaboration with several members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra under the auspices of the Orchestra's Community Partnerships Program and in other local settings, such as the innovative Crossings series, radio station KFUO Classic 99's "From the Garden Live," The Sheldon's Classical Series, and the Innsbrook Institute Music Festival. A former full-time member of the Hot Springs, Virginia-based Garth Newel Piano Quartet, Henderson participated in the Quartet's inaugural recording of the G-Minor Quartets of Mozart and Brahms. Henderson holds the degree Doctor of Music in Piano Performance, Literature, and Pedagogy from Indiana University-Bloomington. His piano instructors have included Dr. Karen Shaw and Dr. Jay Mauchley.
