Black Coffee Plays Hedgerow Theatre 9/22-11/13
By: Gabrielle Sierra
Agatha Christie's Black Coffee will be playing at Hedgerow Theatre from September 22nd to November 13th. The audience members get to join in the fun and see if they're as clever as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot by taking part in a "whodunnit" contest during intermission. One lucky person who identifies the killer wins a ticket to an upcoming show.
Black Coffee, the first piece written by Christie specifically for the stage, contains all the intrigue and plot twists that have made the Queen of Crime the best-selling fiction writer of all time. It takes place in the 1930s at the home of world-renowned physicist Sir Claud Amory, who has called in Poirot to help find the thief who has stolen his secret formula for a powerful explosive. When the dapper detective arrives, however, Amory is dead and there is a houseful of relatives and guests who are all possible suspects in his murder.Zoran Kovcic leads a cast of new and veteran Hedgerow ensemble members as Poirot, a role he first played in a 1993 production of Black Coffee. Critics then deemed his performance outstanding, saying that his accent was "flawless" and that he had "the impeccable manner of a chess master moving with precision to the ultimate checkmate." The production is directed by Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed.
