Keith David to Star in PAUL ROBESON at Ebony Repertory Theatre, 3/12-30

Ebony Repertory Theatre (ERT - Founder/Producer Wren T. Brown) will present Phillip Hayes Dean's (Drama Desk-winner for The Sty of the Blind Pig) powerful and moving play PAUL ROBESON. Dean will also stage the ERT production, which will mark his Los Angeles directorial debut. Two-time Emmy Award-winner Keith David (Fox's new series Enlisted) will star in this one-man play accompanied by pianist/musical director Byron J. Smith (working with numerous artists including Wynton Marsalis, Barbra Streisand, Bebe Winnans). Performances will run March 12 - 30, 2014 with an official press opening on March 14 at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (4718 West Washington Boulevard) in Los Angeles.

The legendary choreographer Jacques d'Amboise, founder of the National Dance Institute, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the McCallum Theatre's 16th Annual Choreography Festival on Saturday, November 9th at 7pm. The Saturday night edition of the Choreography Festival also features eleven choreographers from across the nation who will compete for multiple awards and a paid engagement. An additional division of choreographers will be showcased on Sunday, November 10th at 4pm. The Choreography Festival this year is part of the first annual Palm Desert International Dance Festival, presented by the McCallum Theatre and the City of Palm Desert, and sponsored by Palm Springs Life magazine.

Burning Coal Theatre Company Announces 8-Week Classes for Adults

Burning Coal Theatre Company's artistic director, Jerome Davis, will conduct an eight week acting class based on the concepts the legendary acting teacher, Uta Hagen. The class will take place Mondays from 7 to 10 pm, June 10 through July 29th. The class is a scene study class which emphasizes ideas discussed in Ms. Hagen's landmark book Respect for Acting. Gay & Lesbian Center's Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center celebrates Black History Month with two concurrent free events highlighting some of the cultural contributions African Americans have made to our society: A Tribute to African American Authors, in which renowned actors and singers perform selected works; and a reception for the new exhibit Ain't Just Paint: Works from the CCH Pounder Collection. Both events take place today, Feb. 25, in the Renberg Theatre and Advocate & Gochis Galleries at the Center's Village at Ed Gould Plaza. The Tribute will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed immediately by a reception in the Galleries.
