On Sunday, September 12, 2010, the fifth annual Brooklyn Book Festival, one of the top book festivals in the country, brought out thousands of book lovers to Downtown Brooklyn. With the extraordinary literary heritage, vibrant publishing community and international reading audience of Brooklyn and New York City as its backdrop, the Festival offered the best and brightest stars in contemporary literature. The hip, huge and free all-star literary lineup included Salman Rushdie, Naomi Klein, Paul Auster, Venus Williams, Nelson George, Sarah Silverman, Gary Shteyngart, Mary Gaitskill, John Ashbery, Rosanne Cash, Paul Krugman, Colson Whitehead, Francine Prose, Dennis Lehane, Per Petterson, Esmeralda Santiago, Pete Hamill, Jennifer Egan, Russell Banks, Michael Connelly, John Hodgman, Kristen Schaal, Sam Lipsyte, Sloane Crosley, Maaza Mengiste, Paul Harding, Amy Goodman, Marlon James, Sarah MacLean, Jean Valentine, Elizabeth Nunez and many more, as well as children's and young adult lit stars like Rebecca Stead, Sara Shepard, Jacqueline Woodson, Jon Scieszka, Jenny Han, Nina Crews, Mac Barnett, Tad Hills, Chris Raschka, Michael Rex, Matthew Reinhart and Francisco X. On Sunday, September 12, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, the Brooklyn Literary Council and Brooklyn Tourism will host the fifth annual Brooklyn Book Festival. Each year, the Brooklyn Book Festival 'BoBi' award is given to an author who has made a broad impact on the field of literature. This year's recipient is John Ashbery, who will be honored at the Brooklyn Book Festival Gala Mingle on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The award was established in the Festival's second year. Previous BoBi recipients are Edwidge Danticat (2009), Walter Mosley (2008) and Paul Auster (2007). Ashbery will also participate in this year's Festival program, in an on-stage conversation with Paul Auster, Sunday, September 12.

The Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy (BYCA) today announced it has hired two new artistic staff members - Elizabeth Woodhouse has joined in the new position of Associate Music Director and David Harris has joined as the new conductor of BYCA's growing Young Men's Ensemble.

As featured in Hudson Valley magazine, The Poughkeepsie Journal, and Chronogram magazine...Three bands will headline on one center stage in a landmark event for Beacon: 'Super Rock' legends The Fleshtones; Grammy-nominated recording artist and performer, Tracy Bonham; and Brooklyn-based alt-country jam band, Yarn. Local 845 is producing Beacon Riverfest 2010 in partnership with the Beacon Arts Community Association (BACA) and the City of Beacon in Beacon, New York's renovated Riverfront Park. Free and open to the public, the event will be held on Saturday, June 26, from 2pm to dusk-rain or shine.

THE BILBAO EFFECT, a world-premiere play that puts contemporary architecture on trial, written by Oren Safdie (whose previous play about architecture, PRIVATE JOKES, PUBLIC PLACES, was a hit Off-Broadway in 2003) will be presented Off-Broadway with an official press opening night on May 16, 2010 at Center for Architecture (536 LaGuardia Place) in Manhattan. THE BILBAO EFFECT will run Wednesday through Saturday at 8PM through June 5.
