National New Play Network Announces 33rd Rolling World Premiere: MANNING UP by Sean Christopher Lewis

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 33rd Rolling World Premiere: Sean Christopher Lewis' Manning Up will receive three productions through the Network's Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2012/13 season, the Network's 15th. Manning Up will begin its Rolling World Premiere at Riverside Theatre (Iowa City, IA, October 12 - 28, 2012), followed by performances at Salt Lake Acting Company (Salt Lake City, UT, November 7 - December 9, 2012) and Actors' Summit (Akron, OH, May 16 - June 2, 2013). Lewis - a former NNPN Playwright-in-Residence - kicks off the festivities by directing the Riverside production.

The idea for Eddie Upnick's book, Time Will Tell (Label Man Books), was born out of a chance meeting in Antigua in 1995 with an elderly Englishman named Sidney Dowse. Mr. Dowse was one of the courageous men who escaped Sagan, the prison camp portrayed in the 1963 movie The Great Escape. Mr. Dowse told Eddie details never revealed in any history book under the condition that Upnick would not release these facts until after Dowse's death…which occurred in 2008.

In its 41st year, Learning Through Art (LTA), a pioneering arts education program of the Guggenheim Museum, presents A Year with Children 2012, an exhibition organized by the Sackler Center for Arts Education at the Guggenheim Museum and on view at the museum from today, May 11 to June 13, 2012. This annual exhibition showcases select artworks by students in grades two through six from eleven public schools who participated in LTA during the 2011-12 school year, representing New York City's five boroughs. Approximately one hundred creative and imaginative works, including drawings, prints, photographs, sculptures, paintings, assemblage, and outdoor site-specific art, will be on display during this five-week installation.

Hugh Jackman will return to Broadway during the 2013/2014 season starring as America's greatest showman in HOUDINI, an original musical. Making his Broadway debut as librettist, Academy Award and six-time Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin will collaborate with three-time Academy Award and four-time Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz. Directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien, HOUDINI is presented by film and theatre producer Scott Sanders and David Rockwell. Mr. Rockwell will also design the sets for HOUDINI. Producers Ben Sprecher, Louise Forlenza, The Shubert Organization, Peter Bezemes, Tony Fusco, Larry Feinman, Nanda Anand and Peter Bogyo by special arrangement with/and based on the Vereinigte Buhnen Wien GmbH production, announced that the new musical REBECCA, based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel, will open on Broadway Sunday, April 22 at The Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street). Previews will begin Tuesday, March 27. Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid, Love Never Dies, Master Class and as Christine in last month's 25th Anniversary Concert of The Phantom of the Opera in London) will play the lead role of 'I'. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

MoMA Acquires Important Group Of Paintings And Sculptures By Cy Twombly

The Museum of Modern Art will acquire two landmark paintings from the 1950s and a group of seven sculptures ranging in date from 1954 to 2005 by Cy Twombly, widely regarded as one of today's most important living artists, announces MoMA Director Glenn D. Lowry. All of the works are from the artist's personal collection, and the sculptures will be the first by Twombly to enter MoMA's collection. With these additions to the eight paintings and numerous works on paper by Twombly, the Museum will immeasurably strengthen its holdings of works by Twombly, representing all six decades of the artist's career.
