My Fair Lady is a musical based upon George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a well-born lady. The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a hit, setting what was then the record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version, and numerous revivals. It has been called "the perfect musical".
The new Broadway production of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's beloved Oscar and Tony Award-winning film and stage musical, Gigi, begins its pre-Broadway engagement in the Eisenhower Theater at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. tonight, January 16, and continues through February 12, 2015. Opening night is January 29, 2015.

As rumored, expected and hoped, Gigi is heading to Broadway, straight from Washington, DC! The production will feature costumes by the legendary Catherine Zuber, who recently shared some of her designs with the New York Times. She told NYT: "It's not really historically accurate. Everything is pumped-up or streamlined," she said. "It had to feel relevant to an audience, like something they could imagine wearing."
