Two star-crossed lovers find themselves wrenched between two rival gangs in New York City's Upper West Side in this musical adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Featuring an iconic score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim that includes "America," "Maria," "Somewhere," "I Feel Pretty" and "Tonight," WEST SIDE STORY will also mark the 25th production of a Stephen Sondheim musical in Signature Theatre's history.
Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the season's final New York Philharmonic Young People's Concert (YPC), Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with the program "Dance Transformed," the fourth in this season's series, SUPER SONIC MUSIC BOX, exploring the variety of symphonic music and its interpretation. The concert traces the evolution of the waltz through a variety of works: J. Strauss II's On the Beautiful Blue Danube, selections from Ravel's Valses nobles et sentimentales, Oscar Lorenzo Fernandez's Batuque from Reisado do pastoreio, Mambo from Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, and selections from R. Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier Suite. Vice President, Education, Theodore Wiprud will host the event, which will be directed and scripted by Tom Dulack and feature dancer Heather Lipson Bell.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced the 2015 winners of Kennedy Center/Stephen Sondheim Inspirational Teacher Awards -- a series of annual grants which recognize American teachers by spotlighting their extraordinary impact on the lives of students. Thirteen teachers were selected in 2015 from a pool of nominations received through the Kennedy Center's website. Award recipients each receive $10,000 and are showcased, along with the people they inspired, on a website dedicated to inspirational teachers. The awards were created in honor of Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday in 2010 and were initiated and funded through the generous support of Myrna and Freddie Gershon.

The recipients of the 2015 Martin E. Segal Awards, this year, expanded to encompass nominees from all of Lincoln Center's resident organizations, were announced today by Lincoln Center President Jed Bernstein. The awards will be presented at a special gala evening on the Adrienne Arsht Stage of Alice Tully Hall tonight, March 2. The Martin E. Segal Awards were established in 1986 when the late philanthropist and arts leader retired as Lincoln Center Chairman.
