Eager to begin his life anew after the brutality of combat, World War II Army veteran Jerry Mulligan chooses

newly-liberated Paris as the place to make a name for himself as a painter. With the assistance of fellow ex-pat Milo

Davenport, a wealthy American with a past she wishes to forget, Jerry’s life becomes complicated when he meets

Lise, a young Parisian shop girl with her own secret. Soon it becomes clear that Jerry’s friends—Adam, a Jewish

American composer, and Henri, a Parisian aristocrat—also vie for Lise’s love. This romantic tangle can only be

untied through the miracle of dance set to some of the greatest music and lyrics ever written. A classic American

film about young souls in Paris has been reimagined for the Broadway stage of the 21st

century.

The new musical, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, has targeted Broadway for the spring of 2015 following its world

premiere in December, 2014 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. It will be directed and choreographed by

Christopher Wheeldon, making his Broadway directing debut. Featuring music and lyrics by George Gershwin

and Ira Gershwin and a book by Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Craig Lucas, the creative team also includes

Tony Award winners Bob Crowley (sets and costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting) and Scott Lehrer (sound) with a

musical score adapted and supervised by Rob Fisher. Bartlett Sher is creative consultant. Based on the Academy

Award winning film inspired by the 1928 orchestral composition by George Gershwin, AN AMERICAN IN

PARIS brings this classic tale to Broadway for the first time.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced its 2014- 2015 theater season today, including the pre-Broadway engagement of Gigi featuring a re-envisioned book by Heidi Thomas with direction by Eric Schaeffer. The Kennedy Center will also produce the world premiere musical Little Dancer with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, music by Stephen Flaherty, and direction and choreography by Susan Stroman; touring productions of Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Once; and back by popular demand following its record-breaking six week engagement in 2013, the multi-Tony Award®-winning musical from the creators of South Park, The Book of Mormon, will return for a limited engagement. The season also brings the eighth season of Barbara Cook's Spotlight series, individually showcasing five Broadway performers in a cabaret setting. From March 2 - 24, Iberian Suite: arts remix across continents will bring a multitude of theatrical offerings to the Kennedy Center. Ravinia's 2014 season, dubbed 'Summer of Love/Season of Stars,' was announced today by Ravinia President and CEO Welz Kauffman. Brimming with talent and romance, the festival's 2014 schedule brings some the biggest names in the world of music as well as repertoire that explores the theme of great love in its various manifestations. No fewer than three musical incarnations of the most famous love story of all time, Romeo and Juliet, will be featured, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky's Overture-Fantasy (July 27), a suite from Prokofiev's ballet setting of the story (July 16) and the score of West Side Story as the classic film is shown (July 17-18). In other examples of love, soprano Deborah Voigt describes it as 'Something Wonderful' on a Broadway evening (July 13), the legendary Broadway team of Lerner and Loewe will be celebrated (July 20), and Chanticleer even jabs at the battle of the sexes in an evening titled 'She Said/He Said' (July 6). In fact, love lurks, longs and lingers across genres in most of the more than 130 events that Ravinia will present in 2014, its 110th year and its 78th as the summer residence of the CSO.

Following his acclaimed New York Philharmonic debut on the ASIA / WINTER 2014 tour, jazz pianist Makoto Ozone will join Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic in a newly added concert Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. The all-American program will include Bernstein's Candide Overture; Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, featuring Mr. Ozone as soloist; Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story; and Gershwin's An American in Paris. The concert will mark Mr. Ozone's U.S. orchestral debut; his appearances with the Philharmonic on the ASIA / WINTER 2014 tour marked his first performances with an American orchestra.
