The Austin Shakespeare Theatre Company will present the New York premiere of Ayn Rand's novel ANTHEM. Adapted for the stage by composer Jeff Britting, curator of the Ayn Rand Archives, previews for ANTHEM begin September 25 at the Jerome Robbins Theater at the Baryshnikov Arts Center (450 W. 37th Street). Opening night is scheduled for Monday, October 7th for a limited ten-week run through December 1, 2013.

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present a private reading of a new musical comedy A DOCTOR IN SPITE OF HIMSELF by Sheldon Harnick, based on Molière's LE MEDECIN MALGRE LUI, today, February 1 at MTC Studios. The musical features a score by Harnick, as well as English Adaptation and Additional Dialogue. The reading will be directed by David Glenn Armstrong, with musical direction by Amanda Morton. The cast will feature Ben Davis, Beth Fowler, David Garrison, Cady Huffman, Charles Kimbrough, Jose Llana, Patrick Richwood, Robb Sapp and Elena Shaddow.
The Old Globe today named director Nicholas Martin an Associate Artist of The Old Globe. He is the 56th artist to receive the prestigious honor recognizing over half a century of his unique contributions to the institution both on and offstage. After making his acting debut in 1957 as the Fool in King Lear, Martin went on to appear on the Globe stage in 18 additional productions, including The Merry Wives of Windsor (1965), The School for Scandal (1989) and Hamlet (1960 and 1990). As a director, he helmed the Globe productions of Later Life, Full Gallop, Overtime, Macbeth and The Mask of Moriarty. The Old Globe is currently celebrating the 100th anniversary of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion with Martin's production of Shaw's masterwork, which runs through Feb. 17. In a recent interview with BBC, Dame Judi Dench chatted about the importance of teaching Shakespeare in schools. Dench commented: ' I would like to be doing a Shakespeare play every single night, and I do try to say a sonnet every day... Either it gives you goosebumps or it doesn't, and I heard this morning that some schools have stopped doing Shakespeare on the school curriculum.'

Dame Judi Dench has signed up to act in the West End once more this fall in a new play by John Logan. British actor Ben Whishaw is also slated for the cast, while Michael Grandage will direct. The show will move to Broadway if it is successful enough in London, according to today's New York Post.
