OCPAC Welcomes Tony Winner Faith Prince to Cabaret Series, 4/8-4/11

Tony® Award winner Faith Prince returns to the Center to close the 2009-10 Cabaret Series April 8 - 11 in Samueli Theater. Prince has been dazzling Broadway audiences since she swept the theater awards, winning the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance as Ms. Adelaide in the critically-acclaimed revival of Guys and Dolls. In 2008, she was nominated for Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for A Catered Affair. This is Prince's second visit to the Center, following her debut here in February 2008. She replaces Paulo Szot who is unable to appear due to his extended run in South Pacific at Lincoln Center.

Julia Cho's THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE will receive its premiere at the South Coast Repertory Theatre as a part of their 2010 season. The show received a reading in 2009 as a part of SCR's Pacific Playwrights Festivals. The show will be directed by Mark Brokaw and will play March 26th to April 25th at the Segerstrom Stage.

It's right off the spool-when Pacific Symphony dissasembles the traditional concert format to deliver an energetic and mesmerizing third 'Music Unwound' performance: 'Gershwin and All That Jazz.' Led by Music Director Carl St.Clair, this special concert features French Canadian pianist Lefevre and one of America's leading bass singers, Kevin Deas, performing a slate of American music to reveal the profound influence of jazz on composers throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Rather than following a traditional format, this concert is being presented in a provocative new way, featuring a 'collage' of music-short vignettes performed in a fluid stream-without the interruption of any breaks other than two intermissions. 'Gershwin and All That Jazz' takes place Thursday-Saturday, March 18-20, at 8 p.m., in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

The West Palm Beach, FL engagement of the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning musical JERSEY BOYS broke the box office record at the Kravis Center for the week ending March 14, with a gross of $1,260,453, breaking the previous record set by South Pacific of $1,065,175 set earlier this season.

SCR Announces 13th Annual Pacific Playwrights Festival Lineup, 4/23-4/25

South Coast Repertory's 13th annual Pacific Playwrights Festival (PPF) will shine the spotlight on seven new plays written by America's finest writers, including five who will be familiar to SCR audiences and two who are making their SCR debuts. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced its 2010-2011 theater programming. The season will feature: a Center-produced revival of Stephen Sondheim's Follies; ON THE FRINGE: Eye on Edinburgh featuring new work by artists emerging from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; 11 and 12, directed by Peter Brook; Chekhov International Theatre Festival's Three Sisters and Twelfth Night; DRUID's The Cripple of Inishmaan; and Penumbra Theatre Company's new production I Wish You Love, as part of the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays. Barbara Cook's Spotlight will bring six theater cabaret performers in its fourth season, and audiences will delight in touring productions of Hair, Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific, Wicked, and Next to Normal. Lincoln Center Theater's Tony Award winning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC, directed by Bartlett Sher, will end its record-breaking run at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on Sunday, August 22. By the time it ends its long run in August SOUTH PACIFIC will have played 1000 performances and 37 previews, making it the longest-running Broadway revival of any of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals.
