Cyrano de Bergerac, a play written in verse by Edmond Rostand in 1897, is a timeless story of love, insecurity, and the power of words. The play centers around Cyrano, a brilliant swordsman and poet who is deeply in love with the beautiful Roxane. However, Cyrano's insecurity about his large nose prevents him from confessing his feelings. Instead, he throws himself into helping Christian, a handsome but tongue-tied soldier, woo Roxane. Cyrano secretly pens love letters and poems for Christian, unknowingly creating a complex love triangle. As Roxane falls for Christian's perceived eloquence, Christian himself comes to understand the depth of her love, fueled by Cyrano's unmatched words. San Francisco Opera announces the installation of a new, permanent photography exhibition Looking Through the Lens: The Glory of San Francisco Opera, Past and Present. Located in the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera, the exhibition features 135 photos drawn from the newly formalized Edward Paul Braby San Francisco Opera Archive collections. Many of the photographs in the exhibition have never before been published, displayed or seen by anyone outside of the Company staff and archive volunteers. The retrospective marks the beginning of the Company's public celebration of San Francisco Opera's Centennial in 2022.

Ned Wertimer, a versatile and prolific character actor who was perhaps best known as Ralph the Doorman for 11 seasons on TV's The Jeffersons, has died, it was announced today by his long time manager Brad Lemack. Wertimer passed away on January 2nd at the Sherman Village Health Care Center, outside of Los Angeles, from complications following a fall in his Burbank home in late November. He was 89.
