Seattle Theatre Group (STG) is set to partner with the University of Washington on two upcoming community events - Saturday, October 22, 2011 and Monday, October 24, 2011. Events feature members of Husky Marching Band and Cheer Squad, and student performers from UW drama, dance and music programs.

11am - noon (Free & Open to the Public)
"Make Music Together"

"Make Music Together" features members of the Husky Marching Band and Cheer Squad, under the direction of UW Athletic Band Director, Dr. Brad McDavid. The Husky Marching Band will perform a lively set of music for family audiences followed by a participatory music making and "instrument petting zoo" with help from UW Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Music fraternity.

Monday, October 24, 2011
7:30pm ($5 suggested donation)
"University Nights"

"University Nights" features student performers from the UW drama, dance and music programs. The program opens with an excerpt from Harp Song for a Radical, an original work with music created by the student ensemble and directed by Jeffrey Fracé, Assistant Professor in the UW School of Drama. Harp Song for a Radical is loosely based on Marguerite Young's biography and inspired by the life of labor activist Eugene V. Debs.

Up next is Nine for 7, a collaboration between the UW dance program and the School of Music's Improvised Music Project. Nine for 7 was inspired by the improvised performance series, "Here/Now," created by Paige Barnes and Christopher Hydinger. Pairings between dancers and musicians are chosen by audience members moments before the performers step onto the stage, creating an open dialogue between movement and sound that engages the audience and compels everyone involved to explore and investigate the complexities of this dynamic relationship.

The "University Nights" theme is a tradition of The Neptune Theatre from its historical past where University students would put on talent shows for fellow students.

The October 22nd event is free to the public and the October 24th event has a suggested $5.00 donation. Both programs are supported by BECU and the University of Washington.

The Neptune Grand Opening runs through December 31, 2011 and consists of over 45 ticketed events. A link to the full calendar is here.

In its 90th year of operation, the historic Neptune Theatre (circa 1921) was transformed from a single screen cinema into Seattle's newest live performance, multi-use venue. For more information about The Neptune visit STGpresents.org/Neptune.
